On Feb. 14, Subway launched a new ad campaign featuring Kermit and Miss Piggy, as well as the company’s own Jared, in order to promote healthier eating.
Subway released “What a Muppet Wants, a Muppet Gets,” via its official Facebook page on Valentine’s Day, a day for celebrating healthy hearts as well as romantic couples like Kermie and Piggy.
In the 60-second spot, Miss Piggy and Kermit run into Subway spokesman Jared Fogle in one of the Subway restaurants. Miss Piggy, ever the hungry diva, immediately turns her attention to the food. She orders an oven-roasted chicken on wheat from the Swedish Chef. In keeping with the theme, she also tells him to “pile on those veggies.”
Kermit then references the Muppets’ upcoming film, with a broad wink at Muppet fans, by saying, “That’s what this Muppet most wanted.”
The spot then cleverly returns to the ad campaign’s theme of making better eating choices, with Miss Piggy cooing as turns to Kermit: “It’s nice getting exactly what you want. And you know how I just love my greens.”
Subway ‘s ad campaign starring the Muppets, the latest in a series with Disney, promotes the company’s ongoing work with nutrition. In January, Partnership for a Healthier America recognized Subway for its work in offering nutritious kids’ meals, its Fresh Fit for Kids option, and its continued nutrition improvements in meal options.
Naturally, the brief video also promotes Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted,” the sequel to 2011’s “The Muppets.” The Subway ad is the most recent commercial in the film’s campaign, which has included a Super Bowl spot in which Dr. Teeth and the Electric Company join Terry Crew to enjoy a Toyota Highlander “Joyride.”
Subway’s Muppet ads, the quick-service restaurant chain’s latest promotional collaboration with Disney, will be featured across social media channels and in TV spots.
“Muppets Most Wanted” will be released to domestic movie theaters March 21.
