Muppets creator, Jim Henson’s, son John Henson dies

The son of the late ‘Muppets’ creator Jim Henson has passed away. John Henson, 48, died on Friday in Saugerties, NY from sudden massive heart attack. He was the youngest son of Jim and Jane Henson and had also followed in his famous parents’ footstep by becoming a puppeteer. Henson performed as the ogre Sweetums over the past several years.

His performance of the nine-foot tall character can be seen in ‘Muppet Treasure Island,’ ‘The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz and ‘It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas.’

John Henson leaves behind a wife, Gyong and 2 young daughters: Katrina, 15 and Sydney, 10. He also leaves behind four siblings: Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather.

The ‘Muppet Show’ ran successfully from 1976 through 1981 and featured an impressive roster of celebrity guest stars. A string of ‘Muppet’ movies continued to enjoy a margin of success.
