"The Continuum," the name of the concert, will continue to feature the best Muntu dancers with original African and African American dance choreography. Seneke West African Percussion Ensemble will join in the festivities.

This year, the guest performers are Amina Dickerson and Moustapha Bangoura. An additional treat will come in the form of guest youth dancers from the Chicago High School for the Arts (Chi-Arts), with a choreography routine from Muntu's Assistant Director Idy Ciss and 30-year choreographer/teacher P. Amaniyea Payne. The latter Artistic Director has also toured with productions of Cab Calloway, Stevie Wonder, Redd Foxx, John Hendricks, and Lindy Hop innovators Mama Lu Parks and Norma Miller.

Muntu Dance Theatre, which was founded in 1972, continues to present African culture to a broader audience through education, dance, music and folklore. The theatre also makes a point of introducing new projects from Caribbean and African-American cultural traditions. The name "muntu" translates to "the essence of humanity."

"We understand that there is merit in all cultures," Muntu's website states. "We seek to appreciate the differences in order to amplify the similarities."

Ticket prices for the annual dance extravaganza range from $10 to $30. Click here to purchase.

The after-party gala includes the concert, live entertainment from Adam Emil, dinner, a raffle and a silent artwork auction. The gala starts at 8 p.m., and tickets for $125 can be purchased here.
