Actor Brendan Fraser who starred in the wildly popular “Mummy” movies is “broke”. He has pleaded with a Connecticut court to decrease his annual $900,000 alimony payment to ex-wife Afton Smith.
Fraser, 44, was worth an estimated $45 million at the height of his career. He insists he can’t afford to cover such a large amount.
According to Smith, he is hiding money from her. The two just finalized their divorce in 2009. Fraser said the amount of his alimony that he agreed to in the divorce is creating a hardship since he no longer earns what he did previously.
When the court asked why his career had faltered, Brendan Fraser gave the judge a list which included several “medical issues” as the reason.
Fraser and Afton met at a barbecue at Winona Ryder’s home in 1993. Five years later the happy couple married and now has three sons, Griffin, 10, Holden, 8, and Leland, 6.
In addition to the health issues, and fight over alimony, Fraser has also been involved in two lawsuits with producer Todd Moyer. Fraser sued Moyer last year on the grounds that Moyer delayed production of a film he was in.
Moyer than turned around and sued the actor because of an alleged physical attack that took place early last year.
Brendan Fraser is currently starring in the animated movie “Escape from Planet Earth.” He also has several films being released soon.
Fraser was in “Gimme Shelter” with Vanessa Hudgens and “Case of You” with Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage and Evan Rachel Wood.
