Multnomah Falls bridge to reopen May 30th

Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge
Elizabeth R. Rose

This winter there was rain, wind and ice. A boulder fell on the well known Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls leaving a hole in the walkway. That meant that visitors couldn't hike up and cross the bridge to trails, or worse yet, to take a picture of the falls from that perspective. However, there is good news. The bridge has been repaired and is scheduled to reopen Memorial Day.

The U.S. Forest Service announced that it will host a reopening ceremony for the Benson Bridge in the lower plaza at Multnomah Falls on May 30. The bridge and surrounding trails will open to the public the following Monday..

The Wahkeena to Multnomah Falls trail will be passable once the bridge is re-opened.

This comes as welcome news to hikers, visitors and those attending June's Columbia River Gorge Biennial Classic, a walking and hiking event featuring the beautiful waterfalls of the Gorge.
