“Sitting down, all of a sudden, literally just out of the blue, you hear a rumble in the background and a couple of seconds later, people are running at me,” said Vernon Cardenas, 45, who does casting for the Fox television show "MasterChef."
The shooting occurred at about 9:30a.m. in Terminal 3 at the Los Angeles International Airport on Friday. A yet unidentified man armed with an AR-15 rifle opened fire at LAX. Early on, law enforcement reported at least one TSA agent was shot and died, and two or three were wounded.
According to the Los Angeles Times, an eyewitness, Brian Adamick, 43, said he saw buses showing up to evacuate passengers. He then saw a wounded TSA agent boarding one of the buses. Adamick gives a visual of the TSA’s bloody ankle: “it looked like it was straight out of the movies,” he said. The TSA agent told Adamick “I got shot, I’m fine.” Apparently, this wasn’t the agents’ first gunshot wound.
Meanwhile, traffic in and around LAX is jammed. The sidewalks are filled with travelers of all ages and luggage. Some couples crying because they can’t find their children in the mayhem.
The suspect, wearing camouflage, was shot and in custody. The LAPD has taken full control of the situation. At this point, officials have not found the suspect to have a connection with a terrorist organization. Investigators are attempting to discover the motive for the attack. Fox News reports that the suspect is somehow connected to the TSA.
President Obama has been briefed on the matter and is communication with state and local officials.
