Performing is a conversation with the audience…we all communicate, we all get involved.” - Carlene Mitchell

Carlene has not only been blessed with natural gifts but is also educated in many areas of entertainment. She has years of valuable experiences in voice, dance, television production, and is an all around performance tribute artist to a variety of celebrities in addition to performing as herself as well - on and off stage, television and to audiences everywhere.

Carlene Mitchell’s sultry style and grace has captivated audiences of all ages and cultures. For over 20 years, Carlene’s musical endeavors have centered in the Rhythm and Blues, Gospel, and Jazz vein. As an alumni of the High School of Music and Art, where she was trained in classical music, and other various musical styles, Carlene has taken her diverse vocal talents to nightclubs and recording studios throughout the New York City area where she previously lived.

Carlene has performed with various Jazz bands and Swing Orchestras in renowned locations such as The Helmsley Palace and The Rainbow Room. Carlene has opened for several recording artists such as Ray, Goodman, and Brown, and Cuba Gooding, Sr. at Sweetwater’s in New York.  In 1991, Carlene made her recording debut with French producer, Adrien Dupuy on a Haitian/Caribbean album distributed in Paris and abroad.

Now a resident of Florida for over 10 years, Carlene performs with a variety of groups and show bands for numerous parties and conventions at the Disney resorts, convention centers, and hotel ballrooms throughout Florida and Georgia. Carlene has sung with Sister Soul, a group commemorating the divas of soul, in which they performed for 94.5FM functions, and have opened for the Delphonics at the Kissimmee Rhythm and Blues Festival.

M-Town Connection: The Motown Review

Carlene also performed with the Motown Moments at The Motown Café at Universal Citiwalk, in an interactive show that exposed her dance as well as vocal talents. Carlene Mitchell has been labeled “a class act” in venues such as Peter Scott’s, and has also headlined at The Jazz Company at Pleasure Island, and Gina’s On The Water.  She has appeared on numerous occasions with a jazz trio at The Westin Grand Bohemian and has performed for the Blues Schoolhouse show at The House of Blues, and with an African/Pop band called Wassalou at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

For two seasons Carlene performed with a touring cast throughout Florida in the Broadway musical “Smokey Joe’s Café”. She also can be seen in numerous venues throughout Orlando, including Caffe Positano, and Two Blondes & A Shrimp, where she headlines a solo act.

  Carlene Mitchell -N- Fusion

Carlene not only can perform as a soloist, but she also has a band! - Carlene Mitchell -N- Fusion was featured in The Orlando Sentinel and The Orlando Leisure (WLOQ) Magazine, as well as other print and radio coverage for the band's concert at The Lake Mary-Heathrow Festival Of The Arts.

Throughout her career, Carlene has been seen on numerous television spots including a news profile for The Sunburst Convention of Impersonators that aired on FOX-35, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Next Best Thing on ABC Television, which she appeared as Whitney Houston. Carlene has also been featured in several books and magazines including Copy Cats 2 by Bea Fogelman, Fame US by Brian Howell, and Madison Magazine in Australia.

Carlene as Diana Ross

Aside from her vocal talents, Carlene has also unveiled her creativity and self-expression in the world of dance. She studied ballet, tap, modern, and jazz dance with dedicated instructors and has performed in numerous productions at the George Gershwin Theater, and Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center in New York.

As far as acting goes, Carlene, as a tribute artist, has to study every move, inflection and mannerism of each celebrity that she pays tribute to, thus making the audience think twice about who they are seeing in front of them, be it either on stage, television or even up close and personal - if that isn't acting I don't know what is.

Carlene's take on dance,

I believe that it was dance that enabled me to realize the hidden potential that is in all of us, therefore dance opened my eyes to the love of song, and to creativity in all forms of ART.  My influences have been and are Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Phyllis Hyman, and Nancy Wilson, just to name a few."

1960's "Aretha Franklin"

With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Television Production from Hunter College, New York City, New York, Carlene has taken her creative vision and has produced several celebrity tribute shows fully choreographed with dancers, including “Divas by D.A.W.N.”, which she performs as Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Natalie Cole.

Carlene is the director, producer, choreographer and performer in the award-winning tribute show entitled “Dreamgirls Tribute”, a musical review paying tribute to the Broadway play “Dreamgirls."

In 2008, “Dreamgirls Tribute” had the honor of being nominated for 3 awards, which they received 2 of them including the Artist Choice Award for Best New Tribute. The Reel Awards, held in Las Vegas for the past 18 years, acknowledges the accomplishments of professional Tribute Artists internationally, similar to The Academy Awards for celebrities.

"Dreamgirls Tribute"

“Dreamgirls Tribute” received The 2009 Reel Award for The Most Outstanding Tribute To A Group for the second year straight. Some of the other nominees included running shows in Las Vegas such as “Fab Four Live” (A Beatles Tribute show), and “Barbra & Frank: The Concert That Never Was."

Carlene Mitchell is an interactive entertainer who strongly believes in performing with the people, and not for the people. Thank you Carlene for your wonderful talents for all to enjoy now and for years to come...
