Durango Mountain Resort announced today that it will host the third annual First National Bank of Durango Muck and Mire Mud Adventure Race on Saturday, Aug. 9, with more mud and new and improved obstacles in three races: the 10K, 5K and 1 mile Mini Muck and Mire for kids.

The 10K race includes more than 20 obstacles, like a mud pit, high hurdles, tires, slip-n-slide, cargo nets, culvert crawl, balance beam, a moose pond, wall climbs and more. Prizes are given for the top three fastest times.

The 5K Muck & Mire event is designed for families and recreational contenders. During this event, you’ll traverse log jams and hay bales, scale rock gardens and walls, negotiate mud pits and more.

Kids 12 and under can participate in the Backcountry Experience Mini Muck and Mire 1 mile fun run following the 5K and 10K events. The Mini Muck and Mire includes some of the best obstacles, like the mud pit, hay bales, culvert crawl, wall climb and more. Prize packs will be given to participants.

A post-event celebration, complete with a Steamworks Beer Garden and products from Durango Coca-Cola, features awards and prizes for best costume and other giveaways.

This year’s beneficiary is Food for La Plata Kids, which is helping gather donations for the Manna Soup Kitchen Kids Backpack Program, the Bayfield Snack Pack Program and the Ignacio Snack Program. These programs are designed to distribute food to La Plata County kids to provide the essential nourishment needed for their growing bodies. Throughout the school year, backpacks are filled with nutritious food and given to children each Friday to take home to their families.

During the months of July and August, drop off new or gently-used backpacks, non-perishable food items, or monetary donation at any of the First National Bank of Durango locations in Durango and Bayfield and the Durango Mountain Resort Ticket Office and office in town.
