WINNIPEG — Deeply entrenched racism is a prevalent issue in our world. An issue that playwright Jason Long tackles head on in "Offensive Fouls." The Dora Award nominated play, an up close and personal look at love and racism which has been seen by 100,000 teenagers in three provinces, opens at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP) on February 17.
“What makes this play so special is that it’s true,” says producer/actor Colin Doyle in a press release. “Jason Long has written a play from a teenage perspective: how they speak, how they think, what's influencing them. Their honest reactions to this play are amazing and immediate. My hope, and what I have seen that this play can do is get kids talking about the issues that effect them and what they can do or are willing to do about it.”
The Manitoba production of "Offensive Fouls" features actors Colin Doyle (Joey) and Eileen Li (Christine) and a creative team consisting of Rae Ellen Bodie (director), Jackie Chau (set and costume designer), Erin Finn (stage manager), and Scott Henderson (lighting consultant).
Tickets for the play are available through the MTYP Box Office, at 942-8898, or can be ordered online.
Public performances: February 17-18, at 7:30 p.m.
After Winnipeg, the Manitoba production will embark on a 12-week tour across the province, hoping to reach 30,000 young people and fuel discussions about racism and current events.
MTYP is located at #2 Forks Market Road, in Winnipeg.
