If E! News is to be believed, the ongoing saga between Taylor Swift and Kanye West is set to continue at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, Sun. night. In a new twist, Swift is set to fire back at West by premiering a song she wrote about last year's spotlight-stealing incident.
After Kanye interrupted Taylor's acceptance speech for "Best Female Video" at last year's event, West was heavily criticized by the media leading him to cancel his planned tour with Lady Gaga, and retreat from the spotlight for some time before resurfacing in recent months leading up to the release of his new album "Dark Twisted Fantasy."
Engaging in some major damage control, Kanye preceded to extend a hand out to Taylor via Twitter last week where he profusely apologized to her, and announced he had even written a song for the young country music star. For her part, Taylor has seldom talked about the incident since it happened besides some initial sentiments about being hurt by the situation.
"I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it," Kanye tweeted. "If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her."
Well apparently Taylor Swift will be performing her own song at the VMAs, using the negative experience involving West as her inspiration. Although Swift's song choice has been held closely under wraps, sources claim that she performed the Kanye-inspired song during a secret rehearsal for the VMAs in LA on Fri. The song wouldn't come as too much of a surprise given the Grammy-winning singer's penchant for writing very personal lyrics where she's even skewered a few former boyfriends, including Joe Jonas, along the way.
Kanye West is also set to perform, although the rumored duet between the two now seems like a no-go. No word yet on what song West will in fact perform. The two are also nominees so it's possible one or both of them will take the stage to accept an award.
The song Taylor is expected to sing is off of her new album "Speak Now," out on Oct. 25. Meanwhile, Kanye's latest project "Dark Twisted Fantasy" hits stores on Nov. 16.
The 2010 MTV VMAs airs on Sun. Sept. 12 at 9pm ET/ 8pm here in the Chicago-area.
