It's the best of the best voted by fans as the MTV Video Music Award commences today. In the top four categories, Iggy Azalea and Beyonce go head to head with Video of The Year, Best Female Video and Best Collaboration. Beyonce leads the pack with 8 nominations. Not to be left out, the darling of pop music today, Ariana Grande is also in the running for Best Female Video, Best Collaboration and Best Lyric Video.
It's a breakeven as Chris Trondsen of Pacific Rim Video and Xixi Yang of PopStop TV could not agree on who would win during their web show "That's So Hollywood." For video of the year, Yang picked Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" while Trondsen chose "Wrecking Ball." Xixi pointed out that Azalea is one of the hottest artist of the year and the ode to "Clueless" in her music video is what sealed the deal for her. Chris argued that Miley Cyrus' video "Wrecking Ball" is the most watched music video on YouTube for 2014 along with Cyrus "killing it" with the most epic song of 2014.
One of the more debated categories that had social media abuzz was the Best Lyric Video as fans of 5 Seconds of Summer and Demi Lovato battling it out with their votes online. It's been a back and forth feud as the voting as gone back and forth on the leader boards between 5SOS and Lovato with 5SOS leading the votes at press time. Affiliate Chris Trondsen reported that a few weeks ago the 5 Seconds of Summer fans started attacking Demi Lovato fans then One Direction fans jumped in to back up the Demi Lovato fans causing and social media ruckus. All has supposedly subsided as fans began tweet to support their music artists without the hate.
At last count today at 10am PT, 5 Seconds of Summer has racked up 72,000,000 votes while Demi Lovato hit 68,800,000. Trailing behind the two acts are Austin Mahone, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry in their respective order.
Fans are also excited to see what the celebs are wearing on the red carpet. make-up artist and stylist Jason Sanchez of Geisha Studio says that with the summer season, you'll see bright colors. "It's the MTV VMA, anything goes!" Sanchez points out the craziness of the carpet can be as subtle as Beyonce with simple make up and and an elegant dress to Lady Gaga wearing her meat dress a few years ago.
Many are hoping to see what Ariana Grande does with her hair is stylists point out that she's always sports her ponytail. Fans are hoping that Iggy Azalea doesn't disappoint with some outrageous hair along with a standout dress.
