What better time to take a look back at some of the most entertaining, jaw-dropping performances from the show? From Britney Spears ripping off her black blazer into an almost naked ensemble for 'Satisfaction/Oops...I Did it Again' stint to Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera's rendition of 'Hollywood,' Lady Gaga's bloody creation of the iconic 'Paparazzi' track & Miley Cyrus creating the word Twerk in the dictionary because of her slutty striptease up against Robin Thicke's crotch, it's safe to say that the MTV Video Music Awards never fail to entertain.

Most Jaw-Dropping Performance: HOLLYWOOD, performed by Madonna, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera & Missy Elliot - 2003.

Like a virgin starts playing and a mysterious female body is hidden behind a wedding vale and risque wedding dress. All eyes are on the stage and we all assume Madonna is about to bust out. Britney Spears unveils the vale and the crowd roars. You know Madonna has to pop out, right? Then, Christina Aguilera takes over the next verse and the entire audience is freaking out. Wedding chimes start to play during the middle of the iconic Madonna song and none other than the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna chants, 'everybody comes to Hollywood.' As the camera spins around the packed venue, the looks on all their faces are priceless. As the song continues, Madonna locks lips with Britney Spears and then gives Christina a quick smooch before Missy Elliot explodes on the stage. The attention that Britney received for this was out of this world. The kiss between Christina and Madonna was not publicized at all, only the make out with Britney Spears. This was hands down the biggest surprise of the decade.

Best Performance by a Female Pop Artist: BABY BOY & CRAZY IN LOVE, performed by Beyonce.

Just as Destiny's Child achieved worldwide commercial and critical success, they announced their break and the rise of solo artist, Beyonce. It was no surprise she scored her own gig, she was the star of the group and was the lead on almost every hit song the trio created. The first single from her debut album, 'Dangerously in Love,' - 'Crazy in Love,' Beyonce slayed the song + the next single, 'Baby Boy.' The woman slayed it, tearing up the stage and singing her guts out. Regardless of your opinions of B, she is the most talented entertainer when singing live/dancing is concerned.

Best Performance by a Male Pop Artist: MY LOVE & SEXYBACK, performed by Justin Timberlake.

Another group artist branches out from a very successful boy band and immediately explodes onto the scene with an amazing debut album, 'Justified.' His second album, 'Future/Sex/Love/Sound,' is right up there with the debut and spawned great tracks like 'What Goes Around,' 'My Love' & 'Summer Love.' His performance was just as great. He's our generations Michael Jackson with hypnotic dance moves, killer swag and a great voice to boot. This was the performance and album that really turned Justin Timberlake from the little boy next door, to a mature, sexy and confident male superstar.

Most Controversial Performance: SLAVE 4 U, performed by Britney Spears.

After the crazy success of 'Baby One More Time' & 'Oops I Did It Again,' fans and critics around the world were stoked for the end of the show performance by Britney Spears during the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. Thunder and lightening hits the stage, the sound of a jungle jingles and a sexy, Neptunes track starts playing and Ms. Spears leaps from a cage sighing, 'All you people look at me like I'm a little girl.' Her body was banging, the track was fierce and she put a python around her neck towards the end of the song. This was Britney's transformation and it was happening on live television. She received so much criticism from animal rights activist and fans that she was harming animals and didn't care about the well being of animals.
