Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande kicked off the show performing their hit song "Bang, Bang" for the first-time ever.Immediately following the performance of "Bang, Bang" on the VMA stage, Beats by Dr. Dre and Target presented the global online premiere of the music video across MTV websites around the world.

Also performing at the awards were Usher, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5, Iggy Azalea, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and Sam Smith.

Beyonce was the big winner with three additional moonmen trophies along with being presented with the "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard" Award by her family after she performed a medley of songs from her visual album "Beyoncé. She broke the record for the longest VMA performance ever. In tears, she thanked God, her daughter, her "beloved," MTV and her fans.

Other winners included Miley Cyrus, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Lorde, 5 Seconds of Summer won one award each.

Presenters included Gwen Stefani, Kim Kardashian, Demi Lovato, Lorde, Taylor Schilling, Laverne Cox and Uzo Aduba, Dylan O'Brien, Nina Dobrev, Jason Derulo, Trey Songz and more.

The 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" show ranked as cable's #1 entertainment telecast of the year among P12-34 at the time. The first-ever award show to be broadcast live from Brooklyn's Barclays Center, the VMAs garnered a total audience of 10.1 million viewers, a 66 percent increase versus 2012, and the ratings jumped 47 percent compared to the previous year's telecast.

This year the awards returned to Los Angles area and was held at The Forum. The venue underwent a reinvention and opened on January 15 as the largest indoor performance venue in the country designed with a focus on music and entertainment. Architecturally, the interior of the bowl has been completely modernized and features flexible seating, ranging from 17,500 seats to 7,000 seats, allowing the venue to attract a wide variety of events.
