T.J. Lavin, a BMX rider and host of MTV's The Challenge, is in critical but stable condition after being put into a medically-induced coma following a horrific bike stunt on Oct. 14, 2010.
Lavin, 33, was attempting to do an aerial move at the Dew Tour event in Las Vegas called a “nac nac combination” over a dirt hill when he lost control of his bike and crashed to the ground.
Friends and crew members immediately ran to Lavin's side, but he was unconscious and did not move. TJ was rushed to nearby Las Vegas University Medical Center, where he was placed into a medically induced coma.
Sources told various media that Lavin is experiencing brain swelling and reportedly also broke his right arm, fractured an eye socket and shattered his right wrist. Sadly, Lavin had planned to retire after Friday's competition.
In addition to his BMX (bicycle motocross) riding career, TJ was most known for having been the host of the MTV reality tv competition, the Real World/Road Rules Challenge, for the past 10 seasons.
