The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are about to begin at the Barclays Center in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. But, before the music begins inside, the architecture of this awesome arena has been surveyed while heralding the annual event, with the show's iconic moonman waving the MTV flag on Aug. 25 from a sweeping arch that's part and parcel to the highly touted edifice.

Those attending the MTV VMAs have been lucky enough to wait outside this edgy venue on a brightly lit day when the sun dramatically reflected off the building's glass curtain wall. Some 12,000 steel panels that have been weatherized are also featured on the Barclay Center's exterior and admired by all who happen by.

This building, originally commission to legendary architect Frank Gehry, who was replaced by Ellerbe Becket because of growing costs for the initial and very futuristic design by Gehry, recently was awarded the LEED Silver certification.

That said, anyone who enters this arena, which is also the home for the Brooklyn Nets, should be impressed by what's inside as well as what has been seen outside. And tonight, the whole world will be able to witness this center's interior playing out in full force, with Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and Robin Thicke on the roster.

Meanwhile, after the MTV Music Awards 2013 wraps on Aug. 25, the Barclays Center will get ready to host Caribbean Fever Music Festival in this Brooklyn landmark building starting Aug. 30.
