Whether you like her off-stage (or even her on-stage) antics or not, Miley Cyrus has landed a gig that most would consider an honor. MTV announced late Monday (via Instagram) that the "Bangerz" singer would get her own "MTV Unplugged" appearance, on Jan. 29.

Amy Doyle, MTV's executive VP of music and talent programming strategy, said in a news release:

Miley’s vision for the performance is like nothing we’ve ever seen. I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable 'Unplugged' performances to date.

Pressed for details, MTV said that the tease means that Miley's "Unplugged" episode will include special surprise guests and "intimate reinventions" of "Bangerz" tracks.

As Wikipedia notes:

The term Unplugged has come to refer to music that would usually be played on amplified instruments (such as an electric guitar or synthesizer) but is rendered instead on instruments that are not electronically amplified, for example acoustic guitar or traditional piano, although a microphone is still used.

The word became incorporated into the title of a popular MTV series that began in the 1989/1990 US TV season, MTV Unplugged, on which musicians performed acoustic or "unplugged" versions of their familiar electric repertoire. Many of these performances were subsequently released as albums, often featuring the title Unplugged.

MTV's 21st century take on the series, "Unplugged 2.0" series is shown less frequently than it was formerly. Debuting in November 1989, "Unplugged" featured artists such as 10,000 Maniacs, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Sinéad O'Connor, Alanis Morissette, and even KISS.

"Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged" is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
