Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony's recording of the first-ever concert performances of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story was officially launched at a glittering reception in San Francisco last evening.

Having already reached No 1 on the Billboard Top Classical Chart, this double-CD set was recorded during live performances at Davies Symphony Hall last July. Described as “Phenomenal” by Broadway Radio, and "the most emotional West Side Story that has ever been recorded" by Pizzicato, this unique production is referred to by The Huffington Post as “The most significant recording of the show since the Original Broadway cast”. Gramophone calls it “Smoking hot!”, and Broadway World simply says: “Great music, great orchestra, great conductor”.

Featuring Broadway stars Cheyenne Jackson, Alexandra Silber and Jessica Vosk, the collector's edition of this SACD set includes a 100-page booklet with performance photographs, complete lyrics, and personal insights by MTT, original West Side Story star Rita Moreno, and the composer’s daughter, Jamie Bernstein. The download from iTunes comes with a digital version of the booklet.

West Side Story in concert can be purchased from the San Francisco Symphony online store, which also features an 8-minute video clip.
