Mt. Washington Valley Chili Cookoff

There’s no better way to warn up a cold March day in New England than with a bowl of steamy, spicy chili. This year you can get your chili fix on Saturday, March 3rd from 11am to 4pm at two chili cookoffs in the Mt. Washington Valley of New Hampshire. The chili will come in meat and vegetarian style and be offered in three flavors, traditional red chili, Verdi chili and salsa chili. All will be prepared by chefs from local restaurants vying for top awards given by the International Chili Society (ICS) and locally by the People’s Choice chili.

Start your tasting and warm up at the Mt. Washington Observatory Weaather Discovery Center the headquarters for the ICS chili cook-off. The winner of this prestigious event gets to compete for the grand prize, $25,000, at the ICS district cook-off in Virginia next October.

From there head over to the Flatbread Company, New England Ski Museum at the Eastern Slope Inn and Rafferty’s Restaurant and Pub, all in North Conway. If that’s not enough chili for you, stroll around North Conway Village where many businesses will be offering chili tastings and recipes.

All that chili is bound to wake up your thirst so quench it at the Vintner's Cellar Winery with tastings of Sangrias and Margaritas.

The winners of the chili contest will be announced at 5pm at the Tequila and Margarita party at Rafferty’s Pub.

Proceeds from ticket sales, $15 for adults, $7 for children, will benefit the Mt. Washington Valley D.A.R.E program that assists children in avoiding substance abuse, gangs and violence.
