William Penn, a liberal creative writing professor at Michigan State University (MSU) opened the first day of his creative writing class by bashing Mitt and Ann Romney and ranting against “old Republicans” who he says “raped” the country, according to Campus Reform on Tuesday.
Campus Reform said that the secret recording of the professor’s anti-Republican rant was done by a student who has remained anonymous.
In the video, Penn said, “If you go to the Republican convention in Florida, you see all of the old Republicans with the dead skin cells washing off them."
“They are cheap. They don't want to pay taxes because they have already raped this country and gotten everything out of it they possibly could.”
Penn then proceeded to say that Republicans are closet racists and then pointed to North and South Carolina as examples when it comes to voter id registration and accused Republicans of trying to suppress black voters.
Campus Reform stated that they have contacted Michigan State University (MSU) and stated that said the university will be looking into the matter.
On Rate My Professors, Penn’s overall rating are a 2.9 out of eleven reviews and while some enjoyed his class, others weren’t too happy with his views and attitude.
A student wrote, “If you want a passing grade be a democrat (even if you are not). Your essays can suck and don't worry about spell check if you folks donate to the Democratic national party. There was a kid from a conservative family that he tortured all semester. It had nothing to do with the class, just as his background. Fear prevented any assistance from us.”
Others complained that Penn was more concerned about selling his book than teaching creative writing.
In 2004 and 2005, one student wrote, “You can write crap--but as long as you participate in class discussions (intelligent comments only) you'll get at least a 3.0.”, while another said, “His picture is in the dictionary next to pontificate.”
On another site, Koofers, a Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostic Student wrote, “Penn is very rude. All he talks about is his political views and sex. He explains nothing in lecture, and believes his views are the only good views. He rambles about nothing. He is a smart-a**. It is a horrible class. TA's are just as bad. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! You will hate your life.”
Penn’s anti-Republican rants have become common in colleges and universities by liberal professors in recent years.
In April 2013, Campus Reform reported on another college professor, political science Professor Darry Sragow of University of Southern California (USC) who was recorded saying that Republicans are "stupid and racist".
