On October 17, 2013 from 6p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the MSPCA is hosting an Animal Hall of Fame dinner at the Park Plaza Castle in Boston, MA. Join the MSPCA as the following people and organizations are honored for fighting for animal's rights.
The George T. Angell Humanitarian Award goes to Jay Merriam, DVM for his work with horses. Dr. Merriam practices in Uxbridge and is the founder of Project Samana. Project Samana is a charity dedicated to working horses and mules in the Dominican Reublic.
The Animal Hero Award goes to LCC K9 Comfort Dog Ministry, a ministry that specializes in service dogs. The K9 Comfort Dog Ministry offers opportunities for people to heal from natural disasters or man-made tragedies, supplying comfort to those in times of need.
The Human Hero Award goes to Theresa Strader of National Mill Dog Rescue for founding the nonprofit organization that has rescued more than 6,900 puppy mill dogs. National Mill Dog Rescue houses, rehabilitates and homes puppy mill dogs, as well as educates the public on the cruelty of puppy mills and pet stores.
The Young Hero Award goes to Brittany Wallace, who, through the inspiration of her horse Scribbles, fights against slaughterhouses for horses.
The Spotlight on Compassion Award goes to Casey Affleck who participated in Lobby Day at the Massachusetts State House. The actor and director fights for changing legislation regarding farm animals. Affleck wants to see an end to the strict confinement of farm animals.
