MSNBC host Cenk Uygur suggested that opposing President Obama on his military action in Libya is unpatriotic.
Uygur was interviewing Democratic Congressman Gary Ackerman, who claimed the GOP was "sabotaging" Obama's effort in Libya, and announced Republicans were "cheering the the wrong team."
Cenk also attacked Palin for criticising the President while in India, but had nothing to say about the numerous attacks President Bush endured by elected Democrats when they were abroad.
Mark Finkelstein of Newsbusters noted:
"While the legislative and executive branches have long grappled over the exact division of powers in times of war, the Constitution grants sole authority to the Congress to commit the nation to battle in the first instance,” he said in a statement Monday night. “That decision is one of the most serious that we are called upon to make and we should never abdicate this responsibility to the President.
“I therefore join my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in calling for an immediate session of Congress to review United States military engagement in Libya.”
What about the 40 percent of Americans who do not support Obama's actions? Are they unpatriotic as well? According to a Reuters poll that found only 17 percent see Obama as a strong military leader, 60 percent "support the United States and its allies bombing Libya to impose a no-fly zone to protect civilians from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces."
"Everybody thinks Gaddafi needs to go but there is absolutely no tolerance for the idea of sending in ground troops," Clark said, citing U.S. fatigue with the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. "The idea of entering a third conflict like that garners very, very little support."
Are those who disagree unpatriotic as well? Newsbusters' Finkelstein wonders "...could Cenk, Ackerman and their ilk possibly be more hypocritical?"
