MSF funding for crash study still looks like a no-go

Despite a statistical analysis that appears to show that a good, solid motorcycle crash study can be performed tracking just 700 to 750 crashes, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) does not appear inclined to contribute to funding of the study.

The MSF has stated its belief that a minimum of 900 crashes must be studied in order for the study to meet the criteria it considers necessary. A query to the MSF regarding the statistical analysis, performed by Dr. Samir Ahmed, the head researcher on the study, produced the following email yesterday.

The MSF has not learned anything new that changes its position on this study because it still will not provide sufficient statistical significance of the OECD identified study variables. The study also will not produce results, in our estimation, that can be reliably correlated with studies in other countries, which is important to our multi-national member companies.

A request for clarification and an explanation of what aspects of the analysis the MSF does not agree with has not yet been answered.
