Ms Ruby Wilson, jamming at Neil's Bar B Q in Memphis

When Ms. Ruby sings, she’s seen a lot of things in Memphis, you have to agree. At age 65, this Lady of Soul and Queen of Beale Street is still very much alive. Maintaining a powerful presence on stage at Neil’s Bar-B-Q at 5727 Quince Rd last night was a true testament to her soulful music that makes you want to groove, move and shake, shake, shake. Her vocal range is still strong and when she sung one of your favorite Prince’s song, “Purple Rain”, you didn’t want her to end it. Watch out Prince, but know that I still love you!

What seemed like a never ending cascade of songs by Ms. Ruby included “Fever, Proud Mary, Mustang Sally, It’s A brick House, I’m Easy like Sunday Morning, My Man (My Girl) and At Last by the late but great Etta James”. The musicians were awesome. They can definitely be rated superlative as they kept the music flowing from song to song. The Diva was always on top of the game with her sultry, saucy and sometimes a little naughty shout-outs. Her captive audience could never get enough of her sweet soul music and untiring enthusiasm. It was clear that she loves what she does.

You accompanied, your friend, Ms. A J Echols of Dreamland Productions, to this special event. The two of you switched between dancing to the music and enjoying your front center seating. You could feel the pulsating energy of the entire restaurant. The owner, Mr. Neil, was definitely doing his thing as they say. His dance moves were very impressive and he was definitely an act to reckon with, but you must not forget the food. The chicken fingers were finger licking good. You will go back to treat yourself to this wonderful, delightful and simply scrumptous food item again and again.

As you were making your departure, you encountered a friendly couple, Michael and Karen, at the front door entrance. Although they were leaving, you felt an energetic connection with them. The Diva’s sensational and soulful performance had struck a chord deep within your hearts. They were taking one of Ms. Ruby’s autographed CDs with them. You had purchased one at a previous show. You smiled as you realized the three of you were going to continue reliving the experience of an evening with the legendary, Queen of Beale Street, Ms. Ruby Wilson.
