MrsP.com is holding her second annual “Be a Famous Writer” contest for children. The contest is open for submissions from September 1st through October 15th 2010.
The contest is open to all children ages 4 to 13, and stories will be judged in two age groups:
1. Four to eight
2. Nine to thirteen
Stories may cover any topic, fiction or nonfiction, and should be between 250 and 1,000 words.
Two grand prize winners (one from each age group) will have their stories read by Mrs. P herself and an artist will create original illustrations to accompany the story. Each winner will receive a bound copy of the illustrated story, as well as having it posted on MrsP.com. Both grand prize winners and up to eight runners-up will each receive a $25 gift certificate to Powell’s Books.
The judges this year include best-selling author Meg Cabot, Garfield creator Jim Davis, and Danny Kallis, producer and creator of Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”
The website, MrsP.com, features videos of classic children's stories read by Mrs. P. Some may recognize Mrs. P (actress Kathy Kinney) from her days playing Mimi on The Drew Carey Show. There are interactive games, coloring sheets to download, and activity guides to accompany chapter books like “Alice in Wonderland.” Every story also offers read along options so children can see the words. The site has no advertising and is completely free.
Whether kids want to write about Mankato, Malaysia or the moon, this would be a fun way to get them writing.
