Mr. Perfect: From Cali to Indy....to major label stardom?

Meet rapper Mr. Perfect. He's born and bred in California (the Bay Area to be exact), but based in Indianapolis, Indiana when he's making his music. Mr. Perfect's manager, Aaron "Face" Rogers, CEO of S.O.O. Music Group , is based in Indy. The two men have mapped out and charted Perfect's career with stunning results so far. In the span of a year, Mr. Perfect has gone from almost leaving the rap game to possibly getting signed by Def Jam Records. Perfect had some time available to talk to me over the phone about his journey, his pending deal, and his upcoming moves.

Greg Simms Jr.: You have a pending deal with a major label. Is there anything you can say about it?

Mr. Perfect: "We are in negotiations with Def Jam. We are supposed to have a sit-down with the label. But, Mr. Perfect will be signed to a major label."

G.S: From California to Indiana? How did that happen?

M.P.: " I'm from The Bay. Last Summer, I ran into Face (Rogers). I was at a crossroads with the music business. I was almost done with it. Face called me everyday not to quit and to work with him. I came to Indy soon after, and we started to put in work. I come to Indy every six weeks."

G.S.: How long have you been rapping?

M.P.: "I've been doin' music since I was 3 years old! I was singing Jodeci. It's been on every since then. Guys like Bay legends E-40 have mentored me. This is all I know. This music. The passion. I put my all into it. My fans know."

G.S.: What is the Mr. Perfect "sound"?

M.P.: " My sound is original hip-hop. I zoned in to my influences. Mac Dre is one of my biggest influences. I try to take you to the essence of hip-hop. I try to make good music, hand down. These kids out here look up to us. I make music that kids can listen to. "

G.S.: Is there a single that you are pushing? A mixtape?

M.P.: " I'm working on the 'Perfect Facelift' mixtape. It's got never-released songs. We have authentic remixes with Keri Hilson and Jason Derulo . The current single I'm working is called 'If U Really Wanna', which is me featuring Natrix.”

G.S.: What's your ultimate goal as an artist?

M.P.: "Ultimately, I want to be able to feed my family. And to get kids to see things in a positive light. Guys like Common and Lupe Fiasco, I use the same message. I want to get kids to know that life is beautiful. I'm working on foundations for kids in Indy and California. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. You can change your life at any time."

G.S.: Do you have any parting words?

M.P: "I want to thank God and my Mother. I also want to shoutout CSR Promotions!"
