Mr. Peabody & Sherman moves to the top of the box office taking in an estimated $21.2 million. The movie has made around $63.1 million at the box office, falling way short of it’s expectations. The movie hasn’t passed over even half of it’s $145 million budget, and considering the movie lineup for the next few weeks, it probably won’t even match it’s budget.

300: Rise of an Empire falls down a spot with an estimated $19.1 million. 300 had a large and strong opening, but as sequels prove, a larger budget does not necessarily mean a larger box office.

The three new movies this weekend had decent opening with only one of them hitting double digits. Need for Speed took in an estimated $17 million, but the lukewarm reception could have hurt the box office. Tyler Perry’s The Single Mom’s Club took in an estimated $8.3 million while the limited release of Veronica Mars took in an estimated $2 million.

There are two big movies coming out this weekend (Divergent and The Muppets: Most Wanted). It will be interesting to see who pulls out on top as both movies have a strong chance at taking it.
