Five friends out on a pleasure cruise suddenly find themselves washed up on the beach of a deserted island after their boat runs into some rocks and sinks. Before long they realize the island isn't deserted but their hopes of being rescued quickly fade when they find the island inhabitants aren't quite human but do like their taste.
Emily Foxler (Anna), Nick Mennell (Tom), Marc Bacher (Joe), Brianna Brown (Alexis), Hadley Fraser (Chris), Maxine Bahns (Maya), Ryan Alosio (Marcus), Lance Henriksen (Gallo), Terry Notary (Alpha Male).
Making a movie is like creating a good recipe. You may make some mistakes but recovery is key. The Lost Tribe takes Predator and Lost, puts the two together with some low budget effects, and hopes to create something good. About 20 minutes into the film when it tries to scare us with shaking bushes and grunts we realize the film doesn't smell good. After another 20 minutes we know it doesn't taste good. And with no recovery the movie ending is the best part. The story just doesn't flow very well and feels disjointed rather than cohesive.
Acting was bland and lukewarm throughout most of the film. Even experienced actor Henriksen couldn't bring any energy back to this one. Foxler, Mennell, Bacher, Brown, and Fraser were all mediocre and seemed to lack energy with each other along with a general lack of charisma.
Camera work was disappointing with quick switches to cover up a lack of effects while other effects such as shaking bushes just came off as lame. Sets and backgrounds were decent if somewhat inconsistent. Action was primarily physical and implied and once again just felt immature rather than scary. Dialogue was lacking with little depth while sound was fairly well done.
Overall The Lost Tribe is a lost effort. Conceptually interesting, the film lacked general quality from a technical perspective and plot coherence. The film may generate interest from a narrow category of horror fans who will enjoy it a lot while most everyone else will feel the tribe and the film should get lost.
With violence and gore save this for older teens and above.
The Lost Tribe is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
