Today the movie 'Our Time' is being released to theaters in the United States nationwide featuring superb veteran English actor Bill Nighy and Canadian Rachel McAdams. It also features Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson of the Harry Potter series. Gleeson does an outstanding job throughout the film and holds your attention.
Gleeson plays the part of 21 year old Tim Lake, who learns by way of this father, played by Nighy, that the men in the family have the ability to travel through time. Tim can’t change history, but he can change what happens and has happened in his own life—so he decides to make his world a better place...by getting a girlfriend. Sadly, that turns out not to be as easy as you might think as a girl he had been wanting turns out not to be what he was looking for after all.
The movie takes on a little of a 'Ground Hog Day' vibe with the repetitiveness as Tim feels the need to turn things around in his and his family's favor. Tim finally meets Mary, played by Rachel McAdams, and continues his constant time travel ability to do and say just the right thing to win her heart. He and Mary wed, have kids and eventually Tim learns that traveling back in time to make things 'perfect' is not as exciting or satisfying as living life as it comes.
But as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds out that his unique gift can’t save him from the sorrows and ups and downs that affect all families, everywhere. There are great limits to what time travel can achieve, and it can be dangerous too. About Time is a comedy about love and time travel, which discovers that, in the end, making the most of life may not need time travel at all.
The movie is worth seeing and I would make a very good date movie. This romantic comedy is rated 'R' by the MPAA due to some sexual situations, however they are relatively mild and perhaps it should have been rated PG-13.
