John Green is a New York Times bestselling author of young adult fiction, short stories and a vlogger. The movie adaptation of his latest novel “The Fault in Our Stars” starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort opens in theaters on Friday June 6, 2014.
“The Fault in Our Stars” takes place in Indiana and is narrated by sixteen year old cancer patient Hazel who goes to cancer patients’ support group meetings prompted by her mother. There she meets and falls in love with seventeen year old cancer survivor and amputee Augustus Waters. While discussing their favorite books Hazel tells him that “An Imperial Affliction” is her favorite because it’s about a girl named Anna who like her is battling cancer. The ending leaves the character’s fate unknown and she has always wondered what happened to the author because he hasn't been heard from since the book came out.
Augustus makes it possible for them to travel to Amsterdam to meet the reclusive author but things do not go as planned. During the trip he confesses to Hazel that his cancer has returned and after they return to Indiana he takes a turn for the worse.
John Green’s first book “Looking for Alaska” was published in 2005 and it was inspired by his own experiences as a teenager. He has been nominated for several awards including the Edgar Allan Poe for his novel “Paper Towns.”
