“City of Bones” is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series of young adult fantasy of books written by The New York Times bestselling author Cassandra Clare. The movie adaptation is set for theatre release on Wednesday August 21, 2013.
In “City of Bones” fifteen year old Clary Fray witnesses a murder at the Pandemonium Club in New York City committed by three tattooed teenagers that carry bizarre weapons. The body then disappears into thin air leaving no evidence behind. These teenagers turn out to be members of the Shadowhunters, a group of half angel warriors whose mission is to rid earth of demons. She discovers that she is a descendant of these Shadowhunters and must join forces with them when her mother disappears and she herself is attacked by a demon. It his then that she is introduced to a dangerous side of New York filled with demons, vampires and other deadly creatures.
Cassandra Clare was born in Iran to American parents and spent most of her childhood traveling the world with her family. She writes mostly fantasy fiction and “City of Bones” was her first novel which was inspired by the Manhattan urban landscape.
