After a disappointing unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night 36 last month, Gegard Mousasi now has his next opponent. The Dutchman will get UFC veteran Mark Munoz on May 31st at UFC Fight Night 41 from the O2 World Berlin in Germany. Speaking on UFC Tonight, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion claimed he’s excited for this matchup:
“I think it makes sense. He comes to fight. I expect a good fight…if I’m fighting him.”
Munoz’s last fight was also a loss to the aforementioned Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida. The Filipino Wrecking Machine has struggled as of late (dropping two of his last three) and cooling any talk of him as a possible middleweight title contender. And Munoz likely needs the win here more than Mousasi. Another loss and the Kings MMA product might be looking for a new employer.
Prior to the Machida loss, The Dreamcatcher’s last defeat was all the way back in April of 2010 when King Mo took his title en route to a unanimous decision victory. The former Bazzie Award winner won UFC Fight of the Night honors his last time in the octagon, but doesn’t want to move into a new weight-class with a 0-2 record.
As of now this card will only be offered on UFC Fight Pass. No other bouts have yet been announced.
