So many family, friends and mourners wanted to pay their respects at Chris Kyle’s memorial service today that the somber ceremony had to be held at Cowboys Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

Approximately 7,000 people gathered today to say goodbye to Kyle, a former Navy SEAL who lays claim to the most sniper kills in history.

Chris Kyle, 38, also author of the best-selling "American Sniper" was shot dead on Feb. 2 while at a gun range in Texas. A friend of Kyle’s, Chad Littlefield, 35, was also shot dead at the shooting range along with Kyle.

Kyle’s casket was carried to the stadium’s 50-yard line while bagpipes played along with images of Kyle projected from the jumbo screen.

Also present for the service was a contingent of Navy SEALs who rose to their feet for the reading of the SEAL creed.

To close the ceremony, singer Randy Travis sang “Whisper My Name,” and then led the crowd in singing “Amazing Grace.”

Kyle’s burial takes place tomorrow in Austin.

Both Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield were killed by an acquaintance of Kyle’s, Iraq War veteran Eddie Ray Routh, 25, who is reported to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD.)
