Mountain View burglary suspects arrested

A pair of alleged burglars was arrested in Mountain View over the weekend, thanks to an alert witness and a quick police response.

According to Mountain View police, officers responded to 707 Continental Circle at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday after a witness reported seeing two men burglarizing a storage room. The suspects then fled in a dark-colored pickup truck.

Within minutes, officers spotted the suspect vehicle parked in the parking lot of a Goodwill on El Camino Real. Police say 33-year-old Lawrence Ovadia was inside the truck, while 28-year-old Sterling Winterhalter was outside the vehicle and spotted the officers arriving.

Officials say Winterhalter attempted to flee on foot, but was detained by police at a nearby grocery store where the two suspects were identified and the stolen property recovered from the truck. The subsequent investigation led investigators to additional stolen property that police are currently trying to match up with victims.

Ovadia and Winterhalter were booked into Santa Clara County Jail on a variety of charges including burglary, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property.
