Mountain Creek Golf Course gives bigger holes a shot

Mountain Creek Golf Course is making some holes bigger in an effort to help beginners and juniors feel more comfortable as they are introduced to the game.

“We’re testing a larger hole that is six-feet from the back edge of the green on No. 10 to see if it goes over well,” said Jonathan Schaepper, owner of Mountain Creek. “And during Family Golf Days on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays after 5 p.m. when kids 16 and under play for free with a paying adult, all of the greens will include larger holes.

“Our Nine and Dine event next Friday will also feature each putting surface on the back nine having a larger hole and a regulation hole.”

For players putting toward a hole that is blocked by the second hole on the green, Mountain Creek has established a free-drop rule.

Mountain Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole championship layout playing to par 70. It’s 6,217 yards from the blues, 6,021 yards from the whites and 5,405 yards from the greens.

The layout winds its way around two lakes and a meandering creek, which influences shot selections on five of the holes.

Mountain Creek is situated six kilometres south of Arnprior — only 30 minutes past the Canadian Tire Centre.
