A young woman took her own life inside her Mount Vernon home on Jan. 11.
Police responded to a call about a dispute inside the residence involving the woman, who was said to be acting irately and breaking furniture, said Mount Vernon Police.
Officers were met by the victim’s mother and sister, who told them she was intoxicated and barricaded herself in her room, said police.
After forcing the door open, the young woman’s body was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the temple as well as a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol on the bedroom floor, said Mount Vernon Police.
The victim had a serious, long term condition and was prone to depression and mood swings, said police.
