Is the Mount Moriah Cemetery set for rebirth? If Brian Abernathy, President and driving force of the Mount Moriah Cemetery Preservation Corporation has its way it will. The Mount Moriah Cemetery Preservation Corporation is a non-profit dedicated to securing the future of the Mount Moriah Cemetery. Incorporated 2012 they will be laying out a plan to the Orphans Court on September 17th 2014, at 9:30 AM in courtroom 416 in Philadelphia's landmark City Hall. The Honorable Judge John W, Herron will hear their petition and consider their plea to dissolve the Articles of the Mount Moriah Cemetery Association and name the Mount Moriah Cemetery Preservation Corporation as the receiver. If the Mount Moriah Cemetery Preservation Corporation is named receiver then they can begin the process to operate the cemetery, conduct the affairs and wind up the affairs of the old Association. Abernathy wrote " There are several opportunities to fund the new organization and improve the Cemetery’s current conditions. Historic preservation grants, storm water management fees, funding as a portion of the East Coast Greenway, environmental protection grants and donations from stakeholders like the various churches, masons and veterans’ organizations are all potential funding sources." If you are an individual stakeholder, member of a Church, Elks lodge, Masonic lodge, neighbor or and of the other organizations with a plot at Mount Moriah Cemetery come out and hear the plan of the Mount Moriah Cemetery Preservation Corporation, ask your questions and let your voice be heard.
