Mount Laurel geese safe for now

It’s great news for all animal advocates. After much encouragement from local animal lovers, township council members from Mount Laurel have finally signed a contract with Geese Chasers, LLC -- a Mount Laurel based service that utilizes Border Collies to chase geese from properties.

This is a victory for geese in Mount Laurel. It’s also a victory for the dedicated group of animal advocates including Tina Wilson, Wayne Person, Al Martino, Dave Sauder and Sharon Pawlak who worked tirelessly in seeking out non-lethal alternatives. In June, 133 Canada geese were killed in USDA gas chambers with township approval.

The outcry against the killings sparked a more serious communication between residents and council members. The result is the newly signed contract with Bob Young, owner of Geese Chasers, LLC. Other methods still being discussed include landscape design to discourage geese from becoming residents of Laurel Acres Park and other open areas in Mount Laure as well as enforcement of no feeding of geese ordinances.
