Mount Calvary Holy Evangelistic Church (MHEC), located in Southeast D.C., is on a mission to uplift the community. Pastored by Elder Demaries Peggy Carroll, the church is reaching out to the neighborhood spreading the word of God. In February 2013, two community outreach events are planned. The first is an upcoming Praise Party, "An Evening of Praise and Worship with Jubilant Nation," which is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
The second event is an afternoon of praise and worship with Evangelist Winona Lewis Jones, set for Sunday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. Located at 2504 Naylor Road, SE, in the Nation's Capital, the church doors will open at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
The vision for Jubilant Nation, was seen in 2009 by founder William Stevens, Jr., who is a musician, songwriter and worship leader. Jubilant Nation was birthed in February 2012 and is a Gospel music ministry calle to minister to the Washington, DC area. The ensemble's members come from various musical backgrounds in the music industry, many who have sung, played and shared the stage with many great recording artists.
The group's vision for God's people is to birth music of love, healing, deliverance and compassion for the nation. They infuse traditional, Contemporary Christian and urban styles of inspirational music. Also recording artists, Jubilant Nation will be dropping their first single in February 2013.
Opening up for Jubilant Nation on February 1 will be NaKyiah K. Nichols, a 10-year old 5th grade honor roll student at Howard Road Academy Public Charter School. Prophesied to while still in the womb, she has dedicated her life to ministering the word of God through mime. After seeing a mime dance performance by the founder of The Souls of Silent Mime Ministries, NaKyiah asked if she could be taught. Since that time, many have been inspired through her gift of miming.
On February 24 Mount Calvary Holy Evangelistic Church will be blessed by the gifted Evangelist Winona Lewis Jones, a native of Washington, DC. The youngest child of Bishop and Mrs. Harvey L. Lewis, Sr., of the Star of Bethlehem C.O.G.I.C in D.C., Winona is the wife of Elder Lawrence P. Jones. She's served in ministry in a number of roles including Star of Bethlehem COGIC's Minister of Music, Church Administrator, Assistant Pastor and Co-Pastor. The President of Winona Lewis-Jones Evangelistic Ministries (WLJEM), LLC, she has also served in countless other ministerial roles.
A recording artist in her own right, Winona is a Gospel artist, who recorded under the direction of her brother, the late Elder Harvey Lewis, Jr. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, both in word and song ministry, and has received numerous awards, including outstanding Young Woman of America (in 1985), for her contributions to the Gospel Ministry and for community service.
Both concerts are sponsored by the Music and Media Ministry of MCHEC under the direction of Minister of Music and Media, Thomas Lee McKeithan, II.
