An Olympic gold medalist will serve as Grand Marshal of the Sahlen's 6 Hours at The Glen on June 29, according to a press release from Watkins Glen International (WGI) on Tuesday, June 24.

According to WGI, Steve Holcomb will start the key event of the weekend on Sunday. Holcomb participated in three Olympic Games (2006, 2010, 2014), won Gold in 2010 and took two bronze medals in Sochi in 2014.

"We are honored to have Steve say the most famous words in motor sports and thrilled to have him on-site as a VIP," stated Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International.

Joining the sport of bobsled in 1998, Steve Holcomb started out as a push athlete. In 2002, Holcomb began driving the bobsled and claimed both the Two-Man and combined World Cup titles in 2007. Two years later, in 2009, Steven won the first United States Four-Man World Championship in 50 years.

The following year, Holcomb, along with his Four-Man crew, went on to win gold at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, a first for the United States in 62 years.

Holcomb claimed Bronze at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games in both the Four-Man event, and also drove the BMW designed bobsled to bronze in the Two-Man event. The prototype of that bobsled will be on display at Watkins Glen International in the BMW FANZONE display.

In addition to his Olympic achievements, Holcomb also served seven years in the Utah National Guard and overcame a degenerative eye disease, Keratoconus, which nearly ended his athletic career.

According to his page on the Olympics Team USA website, Holcomb majored in computer science at the University of Utah and continues to pursue his studies.

The Sahlen's 6 Hours of The Glen is the featured race in a weekend when several series convene at the Glen to strut their speed. Series include the IMSA TUDOR/United Sportscar Championship; Prototype Lites (LITES); Porsche GT 3 Cup Challenge USA (GT3 Cup); Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series (LBST); and Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge (CTSC).
