Motorola and Verizon are going to be releasing a Wi-Fi only version of the Motorola Xoom. And while we know it will arrive in the first week of April for our friends across the pond in Europe, it’s unknown when it will come to shelves here in San Francisco and thus, the rest of the United States.
Last week, it became apparent that Sam’s Club would be carrying the Wi-Fi only Motorola Xoom for a mere $540. Unfortunately, there was no release date attached to it but today, Droid-Life is reporting that the Wi-Fi only Xoom could hit shelves on April 3rd.
That date doesn’t apply to Sam’s Club, instead, it comes from Staples which will apparently start Xoom training on March 23rd and offer the Wi-Fi only Xoom starting on the third day of April. No price tag was attached to the rumor but now that this information is out in the wild, expect something about it to surface soon.
Motorola’s regular Motorola Xoom has been available on Verizon since February 24th with a price tag of $800 off-contract, $600 on-contract. And because of those prices, many consumers have been waiting to purchase a more affordable Wi-Fi only version of Motorola’s Android 3.0 tablet device.
Circle April 3rd in pencil for now.
