Motorola Droid X Android 2.2 root already available

Today is a big one for Motorola Droid X owners. Why? Well, because Verizon finally released the Android 2.2 update that’s why. In fact, they started pushing it last night but hey, who’s counting. Oh, and you weren’t aware, you can snag the update this very moment.

You can pull it with your device, so stop sitting around waiting for it to roll out OTA.  Just do this, Settings>About phone>Check for updates on your DX and boom, you should have Froyo and all of its 67 megabytes of glory.

However, that’s probably not why you’re here. You’re here because you want to root your new software because you lost your root when you updated to the new firmware. Well then, let’s get you rooted. Novice rooters might want to stay away but for those of you who have done the process before, it’s pretty easy.

Download: DoRootForWindows.zip

1.  Extract and Update Android SDK package to your computer.  (Our instructions here.)

2.  Next, extract the files from the DORoot zip file to the tools folder of Android SDK.

(Take them out of the folder they came zipped in and place in tools.)

Ex:  C:\android-sdk-windows\tools

3.  Install Motorola Drivers:  (32-bit or 64-bit)

4.  Enable USB Debugging on your phone and plug it into your PC.  (Settings>Applications>Development)

5.  Double-click and run doroot.bat

6.  Let it run.

7.  It will let you know if it has finished completely.

8.  Reboot your phone and you are rooted!

It might take you a little while but it’s confirmed to work, so Droid X owners, what are you waiting for?

Get to it.

i tried that and it didn't work???? had root before the update and now i don't although it says i'm rooted... my apps won't work. the superuser is there but it won't let me allow anything???? help!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Hmmm. So you installed and it says you're still rooted? Weird. The update broke my root, so I just did it again.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

yea i've done root again... uninstalled... installed.. tried other roots... they say it works but then i can't use my apps... still says superuser permissions not granted????

Make sure you have the Moto drivers for your PC's architecture, either 32-bit or 64-bit.. Make sure you're running 2.3.15, which is the official VZW OTA Update. If not, this could explain it. If you are, try a hard reset 3x., yes 3x in a row. It gets rid of any bits of data remaining. When I ran this, I had to wait a few minutes for it to finish and I did have to retry it. Also, try running the batch file as admin.

ok im trying this right now..but its taking a long time its stuck at checking devices ....what am i doing wrong? i have it on pc mode but there is no usb debugging showing up..only shows up in usb mass storage mode help me pls ty

Try to run it again and ensure Moto USB drivers are properly installed. You'll see a Motorola M by your clock if you did. If no M then drivers not installed properly. A hard reset might be required as well. Most important thing is patience, wait until it says either Root fail, or Root was successful.

Mine goes through but won't work

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

So it went through but didn't work? More info perhaps? Did it say it rooted but didn't actually, do you have the Superuser app in your apps list but root apps can't use it? Hard reset, ensure moto drivers installed properly, wait patiently for it to finish. If it doesn't work, you probably did something wrong, so just again.
