Headline look familiar? Thought so. It seems as though Motorola Droid owners are experiencing some of the same problems that HTC EVO owners have been going through as far as the Froyo update is concerned.
Those of you who decided to manually install Android 2.2 on your Droid have related mostly good things to me, things like it’s working great, you love Froyo, you love your Droid, stuff of that nature.
However, like with any update, there are bound to be problems and many of you have filled me in on those. The most prevalent issues are with the Droid’s battery life. Froyo seems to be sucking it away like crazy.
Well, it might be Froyo but it also could be the recent update to the Facebook app that might be causing problems. So try uninstalling that and seeing what happens. So, battery life has been a big one. Another big problem for people seems to be the inability to rotate the screen 270 degrees. The update is supposed to allow that and it enables you to essentially use apps in any direction possible.
And in third place is a problem connecting to wireless networks.
I’ve also heard about phones locking up, Exchange issues, Calendar syncing problems, random restarts, and other minor bugs.
Now, let’s ask the pertinent questions.
Are you experiencing issues like these? None at all? Have you found some fixes? Let’s get these out in the open and see if we can’t get them solved. Ideally, the new build of Froyo that Verizon is said to be pushing out soon would fix all of them but I highly, highly doubt that will be the case.

so far so good. although i have noticed the battery life has decreased a little bit.
I have had major problems since I downloaded the 2.2. update this weekend. My battery life now all of the sudden - does not exist! To top it off - the task killer app no longer seems to work. I choose to shut down all of my apps, but when doing so, it seems to only shut down about half of them. This is ridiculous... is there any help coming our way???

I am definitely having issues with my battery life immediately following the system update Froyo 2.2 on my Motorola Droid. My battery life is almost non-existent. I am very upset. The battery life on these smartphones are bad enough and now it's getting worse. Shouldn't an update be a good thing.
I was upset also. As soon as I updated to 2.2 my battery life was cut in half or more. Task killer also seemed to quit working. Last night I went through all my apps and reset them to there old settings. The update had changed them. My facebook and email were set to recieve updates every 15 minutes or so. There were also some other ones. I changed them to never receive updates or I guess I should say notifications . Well did that last night. Today I used my task killer like I used to. My battery life is back to normal. THANK GOD! That was getting annoying.
I have had many problems also. They are sending me a new droid in the mail for free
The auto-screen rotate is broken since installing the 2.2 version. When entering applications, the screen turns to the side view. Impossible to get it back straight without removing the auto-rotate, which creates the same problem.
Very annoying !!!!
I'm having major problems with my Droid since 2.2. It's constantly rebooting itself and I can't power it down normally. When I pull the battery to do a cold reboot it goes right back to showing the main menu screen for ~ 30 seconds then goes black (except for the notification bar) and the phone is locked up. In a short while it starts rebooting itself and continues to reboot every couple minutes. I can't do anything with it. Verizon cs had me do a factory reset and nothing changed. There is a 48 hour delay in the usual replacement phone shipping process because of the demand caused by 2.2 related problems. I've heard others say they are getting a "new" replacement but vzw insists that they can only provide a “certified” used phone. I treated my phone with kid gloves and now I can only hope the replacement has a gentile history. It's also estimated to take 6 days for me to receive the replacement. Not fun!!!
Since the Android 2.2 upgrade to my Motorola Droid my phone has been doing what it wants. It opens applications, go to my email and types as if it is sending a message but saves it as a draft. I can't do anything on it while it is going through this process. Phone was reset and worked fine for 2 days now I am back to this possessed phone.
Allow me to add my 2 cents here. I own a Moto Droid that was an almost perfect phone before Froyo. I now get about 1.5 hours battery life on a good day. Verizon has replaced the battery, the charger and now ultimately the whole phone with NO IMPROVEMENT. I called Verizon and they instructed me to go to the store, which I did. I explained my problem, went through all the "fixes" that didn't fix, including the hours and hours I have spent researching this problem on this and other threads. I was told (in no uncertain terms) by the Verizon representative at the store, was that it is a problem with Google - that the first edition Droids are not fully set up to "handle" Froyo and that a large percentage of owners are experiencing the battery life problem. Like you, I asked what the (*&#E I was supposed to do as I rely on this phone for my livelihood and the rep suggested I call again and demand I be given a Droid 2. I really don't see that happening, so in the meantime I have a completely useless device unless you count the hour it will operate off a charger. Today it was completely charged and discharged 6 times during the course of the day, and that was with very minimal use. I have installed solutions and uninstalled what people suggested as problems and nothing has changed. Anyone have any comments on this?

Got the bat life problem fixed but i have no corporate exchange now. HUGE PROBLEM THAT NEEDS FIXED ASAP!!! I'm using the free trial of TouchDown (which I don't like) and when it runs out the app is $20. Is motorola prepared to cut checks to alot of folks using their product who can no longer using it for its intended purposes?
i have experienced the same concern with battery life. I never had a concern with battery life now it sucks I have to carry 2 batteries to make it through a day of 12 hrs time. never had a problem before the update. I found even after force stopping an application it will open itself when the phone is in standby (idle) the update really has some good capabilities, but aren't worth the loss in battery life.
Where do I start???? Ironically, battery life is the least of my problems. It doesn't seem any different than before. However, problems I am having include sign in error pop-ups from Google, where I have to send multiple authentications to clear the error. Logging into my yahoo account is nearly impossible - the app never really worked for me so I relied on logging in online. Under 2.2, yahoomail now defaults to a mobil webpage, and when my password expires I can't log in via the Mobil web page - I keep getting invalid password. The only way to log back in is to close it and open the classic view of yahoo and log in there. I have to do this about once a week, what a pain!
One of my biggest concerns is that my Wells Fargo Mobil page doesn't encrypt my password! It also doesn't clear the 'enter password' phrase and I can't delete it. The only way to clear it is to highlight it and select all...
The new digital keyboard is a problem as well. Now, instead of opening a new window when you want to type something in a form field it just brings the keyboard up on top of the form field. I like the concept, but the letters lag behind my typing pretty bad on some sights, and the screen doesn't scroll well at all, to the point That I can't see what I am typing half the time.
I've had other problems with the phone freezing up and task killer not working properly as well.
I've had problems with my camera...it now adds an orange tint to pictures taken in normal light.
My camera will take the picture, but then it shows up blank. So, basically not working at all. My task killer is not working. I put my droid on the charging stand last night and everything looked fine, when I got up this morning, the dock program was in error and my phone was very hot and over heated. Is there anything we can do about this?
@ justin, I've had the same exact issue...
I'm still waiting to receive the update. I was trying to be a good user and wait for the auto update...but I don't know if I can any more!
I have had problems with the phone getting very warm with minimal use. Also Flash isn't working that well, but it is working.
Speed seems to be slower than before when browsing. I will say that today is better than yesterday (when I first installed). The build is FRG01b, I heard somewhere the final build should be a different one, something like FGR22.
Admittedly I probably should have waited, but I wanted flash before leaving on a trip.
Im sure its nothing but my droid without the update has been locking up repeadedly the last 24 hrs. Maybe its the facebook update? Anyway I hope this problem doesn't delay the update much longer.
I'm still waiting. I thought it was suppose to go out on August 6. Is that right.
My calendar went screwy initially but is fine now, Pandora isn't operating correctly though and a few other apps FC constantly.
I forced the update. Things are good and fast but I noticed the battery draining faster. Overall the phone is cleaner and faster. The calender issue people are having is because the calendar is handled differently in 2.2. Go to settings and change the setting so select the google calendar API instead of just the calendar and it should fix it.
Anyone else getting thier music messed up. It doesnt show Albums or Artists any more. Just songs.. :(
Had some minor issues. Uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of apps fixed it. Battery went down a little faster because I've been playing with it more than normal. Battery usage shows nothing out of the ordinary.
Ben I am not good on tech stuff, but how do you force it.

2.2 internet double tap does not enlarge letters ad previous version
Do the update include wifi hot spot cuz I heard the Droid wasn't gonna get it....
That's because the clock speed for the CPU is at 600 when benchmarked with manual update.
Also noticed my motorola Droid gets a little warmer than with 2.1
After updating having problems playing videos that worked with 2.1
I updated mine yesterday morning. At first the battery did drain rather quickly. I was used to getting 12 hours of battery life with 2.1, but when I upgraded to 2.2 I was getting 45 minutes. After it drained all the way and I charged it back up the battery seems to be back to normal. I have noticed some 3G issues, connects, then disconnects, then connects again, and then no network, and then back to normal. The one thing that does upset me is the google voice app can't confirm my number. It's like what? The stock home is super slow by the way. LauncherPro beta fixed that though. Gmail seems to work amazingly, I get emails even when I don't have service, It's kinda strange actually. The camera works well, as well as the video recorder. PdaNet still works, I can still tether through bluetooth so take that Verizon.
I installed it manually and my build is 2.2. The site I got the stpes from said it is the official VZW update but I doubt it b/c it is not FRG01b. After some getting used to, the battery life is draining faster but not too bad. My screen does not do the 270. Flash had to be installed via adoble flash apk (googled it) and installed 10.1. All in all, I am happier but my issues are very minimal. Facebook users, your contacts will not combine automatically anymore. You must go to your phone contact's menu and press menu again then select join to combine your facebook and phone contacts.
Haven't gotten the2.2 update. Hopefully tomorrow I hope will b soon Happy
I did the manual update last night and have not experienced any issues mentioned in this thread. I'm LOVING Froyo! My build is also the FRG01B. I'm not one to mess with my phone too much, but the manual update was VERY easy! Very happy with my Droid after the update.
Waiting for them to send it to me my only other connection is dial up scared to mess up a good thing
I did the manual update. My droid can only get the Flash Player Beta which sucks... too damn slow. Also, the phone gets really hot on the back of the phone even when just scrolling through the 5 windows. Besides these problems, the build runs perfect within all its functions.
got the update, everything was fine...until it locked up. many, many times.
I did the update and the olny problem I've had is my Droid was super hot uninstalled task killer and that worked for me... hope that helps!
Did manual install; no issues to report. Don't have too many apps running, though. Overall pretty happy with it.
Has anyone installed the OTA version? I have heard there are way to many problems when people have been downloading Froyo manually.
I did the manual upgrade. After the upgrade, the phone took about 20 minutes to sync whatever it was syncing; during this time the phone was basically useless. After each restart, the phone would do the same sync and be useless. I installed some apps and uninstalled some apps... the phone was smooth (again, after the syncing issues cleared up). BUT, here is the whammy, the phone fried after a couple hours. My phone became completely unusable; even after attempting a factory reset, formatting of phone and SD card, AND even redoing the update, my phone would still not work at all! Fortunately VZW was able to overnight me a new phone and I am up and running again... fortunately! :)
Am I the only one who has had this problem? In a way I hope so, but also I hope not, so this issue can be ironed out!
Exact same happen to me word for word by my phone has taken a week here in ohio due to no refurbs or new in nw ohio rumor was tons of droid issue's froyo related
The artist/album issue happened to me. Don't fret, they'll come back on their own. Battery life issues may be as simple as the display; make sure you have the brightness on automatic as 2.2 will tweek it
Has anybody tried uninstalling the Facebook app that is supposedly causing all of the battery issues? I'm not able to uninstall it..
just unsync the facebook app with your phone
I am a Verizon Wireless customer and I want to say I'm getting inpatient with this 2.2 update. I have been waiting to get this update so that I have Flash Player 10.1 to play flash videos. I think Big Red is trying to charge us in anyway possible. Is this update really worth it, or do I just keep 2.1?
working great with 2.2 and flash 10.1. Did a factory reset first and then re-added the apps i wanted. Good build, curious as to the rumored push next week....
I've been using Cyanogenmod, based off of FRF84B, for a little over a month, I believe. It's been pretty good and I haven't experienced any of the issues above that I'm aware of.
The thing I bet is draining the battery for people is Froyo's clock speed increase on the Droid from 550mhz to 600mhz. It isn't an overclock, but before 2.2 it was UNDERclocked and 600mhz is the intended top speed for the cpu. Actually, since I've rooted, I run SetCPU and have customized clock speeds, such as 125mhz when the screen is off, and my battery never drops more than 20% overnight; usually drops only 10%. I can go to sleep at 40% and wake up to 20%.
On top of that, at normal functioning the phone is snappier and my boot speeds have dropped about 15-20seconds on Froyo, and even more with Cyanogenmod and Chevyno1's kernel. I'm booting up in 40-41seconds (compared to VZW's 2.1 at about 80seconds, IIRC), and I even run my overall top clock speed at 550mhz versus Froyo's 600mhz default.
