Way back when, Motorola released a Droid X ad that attacked the iPhone 4’s signal issues and then just a few days ago Motorola released another Droid X advertisement that mocked Apple’s iPhone 4 Case Program.
Yeah, Motorola is on the war path against Apple and it continues today.
Recently, Apple dragged them into the whole Antennagate debate by posting the Droid X on their smartphone antenna performance page. Well, like all the other companies that defended themselves against Apple, Motorola has now done the same.
They have posted an FAQ that relates to the Droid X’s call quality and antenna and while it doesn’t specifically mention Apple, it’s clear whom this speaks to. Here are a few of the questions and answers:
Q: When Motorola is designing a new phone, how does it take the design of the antenna into account? Is it a standard component that’s added in the same manner to each phone, or is it unique to each phone?
A: Motorola begins the antenna design very early in the product design process, typically when the phone is in the initial design phases. The combination of size, features, materials, as well as the selection of the carrier customer, make the antenna design unique for each phone. Therefore each smart phone has a customized antenna design.
Q. Describe the call quality on DROID X.
A: DROID X utilizes high performance dual diversity antennas along with innovative software algorithms (software code) to improve signal strength, reduce dropped calls and improve data performance.
Over 80 software algorithm improvements have been developed over the last 5 years for the purpose of improving call quality.
Q. How is DROID X optimized for voice calls?
A: The location of the antennas is critical to quality call performance, so it shouldn’t be placed where it can be obstructed. We understand how users’ naturally want to hold their phone, so we design them with that insight in mind.
Cool and calculated.
There is more Q and A and they even speak to the audio quality on the Droid X that many of you have been complaining about.
Check out it here.
So, Droid X owners, has the Droid X blessed you with good call quality and reception? More than a few of you called shenanigans on Apple's tests.
What say you?

Proven Fact Droid has Problems, Bas sound Poor display, no front camera, bad batter life, and now the signal loss has been proven by Apple and allot of other poster that have been trying to refute it but can't.
Droid X Sales and not even close to what Apples are with the iPhone 4 and its has been proven that Motorola is playing a Cleanup game, The Antenna issues that have been blown out of proportion by those like motorola have came back and bite them but good.
This is just a P.R Cleanup for the last word on a Subject that is no longer news , Just move on now, Droid X will never compare or even come close to the sales numbers of the iPhone 4.
Now that is fact, but most Android Fanboys that drank the "Free, Open" poison B.S will say anything to make it not so, even going into the close eyes and wish real hard that Motorola's Android phone will win. Sales # Don't Lie.
Funny, all the sales for iphone 4 prove is a bunch of people got took. Sorry if you are one of them. We are not talking sales, were talking quality. No issues at all with my droid execpt short battery life. Big deal. No antenna or dropped call issues plus the display is way better than ip4. Sorry dude. Get over it.
sales don't matter here, it's a problem dumb people like you are stuck with. Apple fan boys will never admit ANY WRONG DOING. Jobs just admit to the world that the end in near.
hahaha, I guess by that logic then french fries and big macs are the best food out there, billions sold after all can't possibly be wrong. I'll take filet mignon any day, and my droid x has no issues with reception, sound, or display. No matter how I hold it, :p oh, and do you always make decisions based on what others do?
@Hazard, no I personally don't make my decisions based on others, but the fact is my iphone4 has no problem at all, in fact no matter how hard I try I can't get the bars to drop more than one. I sometimes even increase reception while covering the antenna. These people you see on youtube are more than likely in poor service areas (I.E all of At@T coverage area). Do you always make your decisions based on what others tell you on the internet?
i work in cell sales, every other person asks for it... come on if any phone has any known problem with it... dont freacking buy it.... any body who buys it is dumb.
I went to the apple store and tried all the iphone 4's here no drop out no matter how I held it. Same is true for my phone. iphone 4 is fine unless you are a moron
B.S. (aka Apple Fanboy) learn to write clearer then post.
It is quite wrong for Apple to drag other companies into it. Nice response Motor.
It's not about moving on, it's about Apple bringing a bad reputation to all the other smartphones in order to sell the iPhone.
While it's business as usual, RIM, Motorola have to defend themselves from the bad press. Nothing wrong with that.
@B.S
I didn't know not having a forward camera was a design flaw or problem. Guess ill throw my 720p video recording nexus one away now.
It is pretty funny as Motorola has been in the RF business since before Apple was even a company so I would think they know a thing or two about antennas.
When you call yourself "B.S.".. nobody really cares about what you have to say. so here's a list of things you can do 1) Change your name. 2) Accept that the iphone (all of them) are pieces of garbage. 3) grow up.. stop being a fa.g-boy and accept that the droid is just better. 4) Put your iphone in a sandwich bag, then into a shoebox and store it away in the garage.. cuz 10years from now it'll be worth something as the product that was responsible for the demise of apple.
It's funny to watch everyone debate what phone is better, the problem with this idea is that ALL of you base this idea on the phone, to know what phone is better you need to know the joe or jane using it. droid does almost everything, for a geek or tech savvy youngster its amazing.
For grandma and grandpa or the person who does not understand tech who just want to own and product and be able to go somewhere reliable to get help with it and training all free, then the iphone is king and offers a lot specifically to that person whom by the way makes up for a majority of the market.
BTW the big issue is not even the phone but rather the network the phone works on in the US, this coming from a person who travels a lot, the iphone is not experiencing anywhere near as many issues on other networks. just my 2 cents. driod does, but people dont, therefor driod blows. PS i love the driod.
The diffrens between Motorola and Apple is that Apple makes a phone for the ppl and Motorola for them selfs, i now think cuz it is this way Motorola is better... I now cant say much more on that only feels that way, gotta buy me one first when i get some money. :D
I'm sick of my friends with iPhones dropping their calls when I'm talking with them on the phone. I wish less people would join the iCult.
I came from an iPhone to a Droid X. I love the X, call quality is great... When I talk to my friends on an iPhone I can barely hear them, anyone other phone is fine. I tried to whole "death grip" on the droid and it did not reduce my bars...
I don't like to comment on these cause people get crazy with name calling, but I work for vzw and I hear first hand all day, any and all problems people have. And call quality is not one of them. Droids have poor battery life but hell that's why they make so many diffrent chargeres. I just got my droid x and I love it! When I saw how much motorola stood behind their phone helping our customers with any issues like RIM does I have I was sold.
Most people never get to see the background of these things. I've worked for other networks (other then sprint cause they outsorce so much) and part of what BS said is right #s don't lie, but how good is ur phone when u have to rely on wifi to stay connected?
Honestly both phones are gud. I hav a dx but u kno what i hav no problems with my antenna n some of my friends don't hav problems with theirs so its basically dumb people or people trying to bash other fanboys. N if u want to compare sales u hav to compare sales from all types of droids compared to d iphone4 because droid phones have many types.
Droid is cool, but Iphone 4 kicks it to the curb!

Listen, and understand.
The Android is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever...
until iPhone is dead.
I'll admit upfront I'm a "fanboy". Been using Apple products since the lle.
I don't own an iPhone or a Driod. I have an issued BlackBerry. I have have friends that own the phones listed in this post. Some have issues with all of them and some don't have issues at all.
It not the phone it the provider and their
network. Coverage plays a hugh roll
along with time of day.
A friend of mine has the Droid X, and we've been trying to get it to drop calls. It doesn't even drop the signal unless the phone is in a weak reception area. It's a solid phone with the exception of the poor battery life and the fact it doesn't sit very comfortable in a pocket.
This is not a swipe at Android but at Motorola. After such awesome examples of reliable phones from Motorola (eg. RAZR, V300, and V66) I highly doubt they took any other look at their phone design than to cut cost. I can say this because I owned each of the above phones and each was a piece of junk, esp. the RAZR. I went Nokia and then iPhone after Motorola and have been very happy.
I remember being sent 3 V300 hansets because each was defective out of the box (bad keypads, mostly) and nothing dropped calls like my POS RAZR phone. So, in their glorious 30 years of making phones, tell me why I should trust your engineers over Apple's or anyone elses? Let's not also forget what a peach the V66 was at turning itself off while on a call or how the battery wouldn't sit flush with the rest of the phone.
Sorry, if I were going to buy anything other than an iPhone, it certainly wouldn't be a Motorola phone. LG, Nokia, or Sony-Ericsson only.
My blackberry storm never dropped a call. Now i have a Droid x and still no dropped calls. I think it has to do with the coverage. The reason i say that is because i have 3 friends all with iphones one lives around the corner and the others live like 16 miles away and i will bet 100 dollars the will drop the first call they make to me withing 1 minute.i have verizon they have at&t
Its why I don't like companies who start stuff! I took my Droid (not the Droid X, but I wish) and went against 2 iPhone's and One new iPhone 4g add kicked their cans. Because they couldn't shutup so there!! Thanks apple for making me not consider purchasing a product from you! I respect Apple, but You guys went to far so there you go I mad 3 owners of iPhone upset. I thought Apple was different! Apple disappointed me!
