A motorcyclist was killed in an accident in Seminole County Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes says a 1998 Saturn was westbound on I-4 at mile marker 101 in the Sanford/Lake Mary area shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. The Saturn was in the center lane, but for some reason lost control and struck a motorcycle traveling in the left lane. The motorcycle rider, 42-year old Keenan Huff of Brightwood, Virginia, was thrown from the bike into the left lane of the interstate. The FHP says a westbound car coming upon the accident also ran over the motorcyclist, but the driver of that car did stop at the scene. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but died in the accident.
Saturn leaves scene, VW hits patrol car
Meanwhile, FHP troopers say the driver of the Saturn “…traveled into the center median, placed the car in reverse and left the scene westbound on I-4.” Troopers also report that a Lake Mary police officer was the first responder on the scene, and blocked the left lane of I-4 with his patrol car with emergency equipment activated. However, a 2009 Volkswagen westbound on I-4 “…did not stop and struck the unoccupied patrol car.” The driver of the Volkswagen was ticketed for careless driving.
The FHP says the driver of the Saturn was located later Sunday.
