On Thursday, Arlington Police confirmed additional details on a fatality that occurred last week when a pedestrian was killed after stepping into the path of an oncoming motorcycle. Dylan Hughes, 27, is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol when he walked onto the roadway at around 6:45 p.m. on the evening of Friday, December 27, 2013.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Jeffrey Houston, the man “was struck by a motorcycle traveling eastbound in the right lane.” The accident happened near the intersection of Matlock Road and East Sublett Road when Hughes stepped onto the roadway; he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m.

Hughes was a graduate of Arlington High School and, according to his obituary, was a great enthusiast of music. His last Facebook update was the day of his death; he was looking forward to the Weidman v. Silva MMA match the next evening.

Sgt. Houston stated there were actually two motorcyclists; Benjou Jones was identified as the rider who Hughes stepped out in front of while riding a 2006 Honda CR1000. It has been confirmed that Jones was not intoxicated, speed was not an issue, and he was wearing his helmet which was damaged in the wreck.

Jones was transported to a hospital with injuries that were "incapacitating but not life threatening."

Charges against Jones appear very doubtful as the circumstances point to Hughes being at fault. Sgt. Houston went on to say, “Investigators are looking into the possibility that alcohol might have played a factor on the pedestrian’s part of entering the roadway,”
