Motorcycles are ice-breakers

Motorcycles draw a crowd wherever they are parked
Motorcycles draw a crowd wherever they are parked

Wherever your motorcycle travels may take you, one thing you can count on is being approached by someone wanting to either comment about your motorcycle or tell you of their bike and/or experiences riding.

Whether stopped for a fill-up at a gas station or taking off riding gear before going into a restaurant or simply waiting for the traffic light to change, chances are you will attract attention. An older gentleman will tell you about his first bike; a woman will ask “what is it like to ride”; someone will suggest a local scenic road to try; and always people will want to know about where you are going and where have you ridden.
As a motorcyclist, you should maximize these casual encounters. If asked about your bike or your experiences, you can become a cheerleader for motorcycling. If you are given advice about a local restaurant or a scenic drive, pay attention; this person is probably a local and knows what they are talking about.   And if the person talking to you just wants to reminisce about the old days when they used to ride, please listen as you may be the highlight of the day for that person.
Because a motorcycle is such an ice-breaker, traveling on two wheels becomes a much more unique experience. When was the last time you were approached as you parked the family car with a story about “my first mini-van”?
