An ice racer burns around the track
'Tis the season for ice racing and in Colorado that means Harry's Roamers are out in force. All it takes is to drill some screws into your tires and voila! Traction! Except there are classes for bare tires as well. Those guys don't go so fast.
Ice racing on motorcycles has its professional element but most racers just come to have fun with friends and family. Up at Rainbow Falls Park last weekend John Castagna was there with his son, Brendan, 6, both of them racing. John was on his Kawasaki KX250, while Brendan rode a Yamaha PW50 with outrigger wheels. With the outriggers, John explained, "there's no fear of falling, they just give it the gas."
I presented a full story on motorcycle ice racing last year at this time so rather than repeat myself I'm just offering the photos. Enjoy.

"cool" article Ken!
those outriggers remind me of how my sidecar helps me out on iffy terrain....I must go see one of these ice races.
Love it. I had an opportunity last year to ride on the ice in Washington State. It was awesome, but trust me, I wasn't flying.
Got something to say?
