A Palm Coast man died in a motorcycle accident early New Year’s morning, but the crash was not discovered in a local neighborhood until later in the day. The Florida Highway Patrol in Jacksonville says 20-year old Codie Ray Barlow of Pebble Beach Drive had been northbound on Pacific Drive around 3:30 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a sharp left turn in the road south of Parkview Drive. Troopers say Barlow, who was not wearing a helmet, drove off the east shoulder of the road and hit a mailbox on Pacific Drive. The 2007 Honda CBR Racing bike then “…began to overturn and ejected its driver.” The crash threw Barlow into a front yard on Pacific Drive, and the motorcycle came to rest in another front yard.
The FHP says a neighbor heard the crash, and saw that the mailbox had been hit, but did not see Barlow or the bike. However, Barlow and the bike were discovered later around 7:30 that morning as the neighbor checked the mailbox and retrieved a newspaper.
Troopers say speed was a factor in the accident, but it is not known yet if alcohol or drugs were.
