An Orlando man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Daytona Beach Friday night. Daytona Beach Police say 33-year old Cory L. Powell lost control of his motorcycle while northbound in the 400 block of North Charles Street near Fairview Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. A report on the Police Department website says the motorcycle hit a curb, and then a fence. Powell was ejected from the bike in the accident and died at the scene. Police say he had not been wearing a helmet, but also add that “…speed [does not] appear to be a factor…” in the crash. The accident happened during Biketoberfest 2013, which runs through Sunday evening in Daytona Beach.
Update: Police later said speed had been a factor in the accident, finding that Powell "...was traveling 60 mph in a 30 mph speed zone."
