A Tampa man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Daytona Beach Saturday afternoon. Daytona Beach Police say 48-year old Ricky Whitehead was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident on South Clyde Morris Boulevard and Buccaneer Way at around 3 p.m. Police say Whitehead “…was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Clyde Morris approaching the intersection of Buccaneer Way, [and upon] approaching the curve traveled into the southbound lanes of Clyde Morris in between oncoming traffic.” Police say Whitehead struck the guard rail on the west side of Clyde Morris and was ejected from the motorcycle. The bike came to rest on the east side of Clyde Morris about 200 feet away. Police say Whitehead was wearing a helmet. Unofficial reports were that people at the scene started CPR until the Daytona Beach Police; Fire Department and EVAC ambulances arrived. Daytona Beach Police also blocked traffic on Clyde Morris Boulevard between International Speedway Boulevard and Richard Petty Boulevard during the accident investigation.
